In July 2018, Joan-Carles Fonoll stepped up to be the Group’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and his appointment to the Group Executive Board followed on July 1st, 2019.
In-depth knowledge of GFT
His career at GFT started in Spain when he joined in 2001 as a Project Manager. Today he is responsible for ensuring the execution of the group’s strategy, delivering on key drivers such as agility, simplicity and accountability. In his former role as the Group Chief of Staff, he supported GFT’s CEO and his focus was on implementing group-wide strategic initiatives. Joan Carles also acted as liaison between the business units and group Corporate Services functions. This enabled him to gain in-depth knowledge of GFT and how the company enables clients’ digital transformation.
Over 30 years in the technology business
Joan Carles Fonoll’s track record of over 30 years in the technology business started when he was a developer at Siemens back in 1989. He moved on to EDS, where he worked a few years in Spain and also in Germany as a system engineer, followed by roles as a consultant. He became part of the “Deutsche Bank Group”, where his focus was on leading projects.
Joan Carles joined GFT Iberia Solutions in 2001. First as a project, then as a delivery manager. In 2008, he moved to GFT USA in New York and was instrumental in establishing the North American business for GFT. For two years, he held the responsibility of GFT Group Chief of Staff, after which he stepped up to be the Group’s Chief Operating Officer, the role he holds today. On July 1st, 2019, he was appointed to the Group Executive Board.
Education
Joan Carles Fonoll studied at the University of Barcelona from 1985 to 1990 and obtained a degree in computer science.
