‘I’m making my mark by encouraging and helping other young women to make their mark’
As well as my native Spain, I’ve lived in both Italy and the UK, following my love of languages and different cultures. After starting my career in communications – and as part of my commitment to helping others in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) – I embraced the opportunity to transition into software and joined GFT’s Junior Program in May 2022.
As a co-ambassador for Technovation Girls Catalonia, I’ve been part of transforming a STEAM contest into the leading initiative for technology, entrepreneurship and innovation in Catalonia since 2021. We’ve engaged more than 500 young girls and established a network of 200 mentors to help them.
I was already actively involved in that – and various other tech programs that were aimed at encouraging young girls to explore technology – before getting into coding myself. It had always felt a bit strange to participate in these initiatives without knowing how to code.
So, to truly make my mark, it seemed right to develop the technical skills to complement my background in communications. As part of that, I was selected as a speaker for the Codemotion Conference Madrid 2024 to demonstrate GFT’s support.
Working with young girls in STEAM has strengthened my belief in the power of mentorship and the need for more female representation in tech. In turn, GFT has supported me through the GFT WomenTech Mentoring Program. That aims to empower women in tech, and the 2023 event gave valuable insights from experienced professionals. Hearing their inspiring stories helped me relate to their experiences, made their successes feel achievable, and so motivated me to aim higher.
Meanwhile, at the other end, the Technovation Girls Catalonia initiative has also inspired me. One of the best parts of has been to see the girls go from initial idea to fully working project, watch their creativity flourish as their confidence grows, and then be inspired by their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
I know that my own commitment to learning and growth have helped keep me motivated and overcome challenges. I hope I can help inspire other young women.
