Challenge
Faced with an ageing legacy system that was not able to accommodate the requirements of the digital age, MACIF wanted to transform its business core systems to be digital-ready, optimise costs and gain flexibility. The insurer required a core system that would meet the requirements of the digital era, in particular with regards to multi-channel capabilities, automation and product flexibility.
Engagement
MACIF selected Guidewire as the ideal solution to achieve its ambitious goal and entrusted GFT with the design and execution of a multiyear full business and IT transformation roadmap.
A multidisciplinary and agile implementation team was put together, involving project managers, insurance business experts and Guidewire technical specialists. In total up to 130 GFT experts from France, Canada, Spain, Poland and Costa Rica took part in this project.
To reap the benefits of cloud in terms of scalibilty, flexibility and cost optimisation, MACIF opted for Guidewire’s SaaS platform, Guidewire InsuranceSuite on the cloud, running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company chose a phased migration approach with consecutive migrations of its different business lines. It began with the migration of its Flottes (Fleet) business line, covering car leasing. MACIF successfully completed this migration in 10 months, including a version upgrade and the release of two new commercial products.
These early achievements paved the way for the second stage, involving the migration of MACIF’s largest business line, Mobilité (Mobility), covering cars, motorbikes and other wheeled vehicles. This was a more complex migration, given the substantial volume of data, the large number of integration points and the potential impact for the business in case of failure. In June 2022, MACIF completed this second stage of the deployment. The remaining P&C business lines are scheduled for implementation on Guidewire InsuranceSuite on the cloud in follow-up releases in the next couple of years. The insurer is currently working on the migration of its business line Habitation (Homes).
Benefit
With Europe’s largest implementation of Guidewire InsuranceSuite on the cloud, MACIF becomes a pioneer and sets the standard for the insurance industry.
From the very first day, the new system was fully operational, handling over 180,000 quotations, 70,000 contracts and 300 claims during its first three weeks in operation. This extreme performance provides MACIF with the reassurance needed to start planning for the future. The new digital and multi-channels capabilities, coupled with the scalability of the cloud, open the door to innovation and accelerates the launch of new products and business models.
The new system is easy to use, giving customer service employees more time to interact with members and build their relationships. And since Guidewire InsuranceSuite on the cloud is offered on a SaaS model, maintenance efforts and costs are reduced, enabling the IT team at MACIF to focus on matters more central to the business.
“This new solution should allow us to go to market faster with new value propositions, and offer more customised solutions to our members through the technical architecture of Guidewire‘s products.”
“We wanted to be able to focus more on our core competency – taking care of our members – and spend less time on managing IT systems.”
“This is the largest implementation of Guidewire InsuranceSuite on the cloud in Europe so far. The solution ran very well from day one, and that is a testament to the great collaboration between Macif, our partner GFT, and Guidewire.”
“It was an ambitious undertaking, but we knew we could do it. By using resources and experts from five countries in Europe and America, we got the job done.”
