The first report on core systems modernisation in Poland
Polish banks use relatively young banking systems, the majority of which started to be developed in the 1990s. In consequence, customers in Poland can count on a number of modern solutions, especially in the front-end area. However, still a significant number of basic banking systems are based on older designs; thus in many cases they need to be modernised. It is a process which currently means migration to a cloud in almost every case.
The first report on core systems modernisation in Polish banks
GFT, in cooperation with the Banking Technologies Forum and Microsoft Poland, developed a report on modernisation of core systems using modern IT solutions, entitled “The future of central systems”. Is this the time for a cloud? One of the main elements was a survey conducted among Polish banks concerning the current situation of systems of this type and challenges associated with modernisation. It is the first report on this subject focusing on Polish banks.

The new generation core banking systems are based mainly on cloud systems that ensure innovativeness, scalability, flexibility, and capacity. In migration, it is possible to use an approach based on partial or complete migration of services. In the first option, new solutions can be tested and the strategy can be adjusted, if necessary, while the second one is used mainly during the creation of a new digital bank or a digital branch of an existing bank. A certain risk and challenges associated with processes of this type cannot be avoided here. More information on this issue is provided in the report developed by GFT.
„I must admit I did not expect that I would find reading over 70 pages of the report on the future of central systems so engaging and interesting. What I perceive as very valuable in this report is the projection of the future events in the core banking ecosystem in Poland and in Central and Eastern Europe.“
„Core banking systems are and will remain the key element of bank infrastructure. Innovativeness of the new generation core banking systems lies in cloud solutions and microservice-based architecture“
